Privacy Notice.

Last updated: May 29, 2026

1. Who we are

This Privacy Notice describes how Plainly ("Plainly", "we", "us", or "our") collects and processes personal data in connection with the Plainly website and SEO software service (the "Service"). Plainly is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice.

If you have any questions, contact us at support@tryplainly.app.

2. Personal data we collect

  • Account data — name, email address, login credentials, and profile preferences.
  • Project data — the websites, keywords, content, and SEO data you submit to the Service.
  • Usage and telemetry — pages viewed, actions taken, device and browser identifiers, IP address, and approximate location.
  • Support communications — messages and attachments you send to our support team.
  • Billing data — collected by our payment processor Paddle (see Section 5). We receive only limited information such as plan, status, and country.

3. Why we use your data and legal basis

  • Provide the Service (contract performance) — create your account, deliver SEO plans and reports, sync your projects.
  • Security and fraud prevention (legitimate interest) — protect accounts, prevent abuse, detect bots.
  • Product improvement (legitimate interest) — analyze usage to improve features and reliability.
  • Customer support (contract performance) — respond to your questions and issues.
  • Marketing (consent or legitimate interest) — send product updates and onboarding emails. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Legal compliance (legal obligation) — meet tax, accounting, and other legal requirements.

4. How we share data

We share personal data with:

  • Service providers / subprocessors — hosting, database, email delivery, analytics, and customer support tooling, acting on our instructions.
  • Paddle (Merchant of Record) — for the sale of subscriptions, subscription management, payments, invoicing, refunds, and sales tax compliance.
  • Professional advisers — legal, accounting, and audit providers, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Authorities — where required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Payments and Paddle as Merchant of Record

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle collects and processes your billing details (name, billing address, payment instrument, tax identifiers, transaction history) directly and acts as an independent data controller for that data under its own privacy notice at paddle.com/legal/privacy. Paddle provides customer service inquiries related to billing and handles refunds.

6. International transfers

Some of our service providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the UK / EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

7. How long we keep data

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. After that, data is deleted or anonymized.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. UK and EEA users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, email support@tryplainly.app. We will respond within one month.

9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege internal access — to protect personal data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the Service, and a small set of analytics cookies to understand product usage. For a full breakdown of the cookies we use, how long they last, and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.

11. Changes to this notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or via the Service.
